Proper Pronunciation Guide

dream

[drim]

Tips:

  • Pronounce the initial consonant as a firm
    /d/ and not as
    /ʤ/.
  • To help blend
    /d/ with the following
/r/—you might try placing the tip of your tongue a little further back on the palate—a bit closer to where it will need to be for
/r/ rather than on the gum ridge.
  • Try not to roll or trill the consonant glide
    /r/.
  • Pronounce the letters “ea” as a very distinct and long
    /i:/.
  • Sustain the final
/m/ slightly when it is at the end of a sentence or when it is followed by another consonant, as it is in the second pratice sentence below.

Practice Sentences:

I had a dream about you last night.
Sarah loves to daydream when she has nothing better to do.
