Proper Pronunciation Guide

friendly

[frɛn dli]

Tips:

  • Be sure to pronounce the letter “d.”

Practice Sentence:

The interviewer was very friendly.

Notes:

You can explode the consonant /d/ directly into /l/ by keeping the center of the tip of the tongue firmly against the gum ridge behind the upper front teeth while lowering the sides of the tongue to allow a half explosion of air around the sides of the tongue. This is also true when /d/ explodes into a “syllabic l” /ḷ/ with no vowel following the “l,” as in the word “handle” [hæn dḷ].
